Mashed Potatoes Recipe 

2 pounds (about 900 grams) potatoes (russet or Yukon gold potatoes work well) 1/2 cup (120ml) milk or cream 4 tablespoons (56 grams) unsalted butter Salt, to taste Pepper, to taste (optional)

Boil the Potatoes: Place the potato chunks in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a generous pinch of salt to the water

Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to medium and simmer until the potatoes are tender when pierced with a fork, about 15-20 minutes.

Drain and Dry: Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them in a colander and return them to the pot. Let them sit for a minute or two to allow any excess moisture to evaporate.

Mash the Potatoes: Using a potato masher or a fork, mash the potatoes until they reach your desired consistency. Some people prefer smooth mashed potatoes, while others like them a bit chunky.

Add Butter and Milk: Add the butter and milk (or cream) to the mashed potatoes. Stir until the butter is melted and the milk is fully incorporated.
